Copy existing amplicons

You can copy amplicons from one or more Ready‑to‑Use Panels, Community Panels, and previous Made-to-order designs, then use the copied amplicons to generate new custom designs without the need to calculate the position of the amplicon. You can also copy amplicons to an existing custom design draft.

In cases when the Copy Amplicons function is not available, you can generate custom DNA or RNA panels by exporting the targets, importing these targets as a new Draft design, then submitting the Draft design for design preparation. For information on limitations and compatibility of the Copy Amplicons function, see Known limitations of the Copy Amplicons function.

Note: Panels with more than 4,999 amplicons are NOT be available for direct order. Contact Support for assistance with ordering the large designs.

  1. In the navigation bar, click Fixed Panels > Community Panels or Fixed Panels > Ready‑to‑Use Panels .

Depending on your selection, Ion Research Panels: Community Panel or Ion Research Panels: Ready‑to‑Use Panel screen opens, displaying a list of all available community or ready‑to‑use panels.

  2. Customize the amplicon list or copy all amplicons to a new or existing design.

    Description

    Customize the amplicon list

In the row of the panel that you want to copy amplicons from, in the Actions column, click Review panel. Proceed to step 3.

    Copy all amplicons

In the row of the panel that you want to copy amplicons from, in the Actions column, click Copy Amplicons, then click Copy amplicons to another design. Proceed to step 7.

Export all amplicons to a CSV file

In the row of the panel that you want to copy amplicons from, in the Actions column, click Copy Amplicons, then click Download amplicon list. If needed, edit the CSV file to customize the list of amplicons, then upload the edited file to a custom design.

To upload the customized CSV file to a new or existing custom design, see Ion AmpliSeq Custom panels.

  3. In the review screen for the panel, in the list of targets, select the checkbox in the row of each desired target, then click Copy Amplicons.

    Note:

    • Selected targets can be included or excluded from a design (see step 4).

    • You can use the search field to search for targets of interest by gene name.

  4. In the Copy Amplicons dialog, select Copy checked targets rows or Copy unchecked targets instead of checked targets rows to include either checked or unchecked targets in your design.
  5. (Optional) If needed, edit the targets at an amplicon level. Otherwise, proceed to step 6.
    1. Click Download amplicon list to download a CSV file that lists all the amplicons for the selected genes.
    2. Edit the CSV file to remove unnecessary amplicons, then upload the edited file to a custom design.

To upload the customized CSV file to a new or existing custom design, see Start a new Ion AmpliSeq DNA Gene design or Start a new Ion AmpliSeq HD DNA Gene design.

  6. Click Copy amplicons to another design.
  7. In the Select Destination dialog, from the Destination dropdown list, select an existing design to copy amplicons to, or select New design to copy the amplicons to a new design. If you selected New design, enter a unique name for the design, then select the DNA type.

Note: If you are copying amplicons to an existing design, the existing design must be in the Draft status and the new amplicons must be of the same genome as the existing design.

  8. Click Copy amplicons.

The amplicons are copied to a new or existing custom design. The workflow for creating a custom design opens to the draft design screen where you can further edit the design before submitting the targets.

To finalize and submit the design, proceed to one of the following steps depending on the custom design type.
